Working Out With Krav Maga

MONDAY AND TUESDAY LOOK GOOD, BUT ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM NEXT WEEK WILL BRING MORE SNOW.
TRACY: I DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY ANYMORE, ROGER. SO FAR THIS WEEK, I'VE TRIED YOGA, BAR SCULPT, AND BURLESQUE. TODAY I AM DRIVING -- TRYING KRAV MAGA, A FORM OF COMBAT FIGHTING USED BY ISRAELI DEFENSE FORCES. IT IS BECOMING A POPULAR WORKOUT IN THE U.S. AND RIGHT HERE IN MAINE.

IT WAS DEVELOPED FOR FIGHTERS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SELf DEFENSE SKILLS. TRACY: TONY IS THE OWNER OF THE LEADERSHIP KARATE CENTER, WHERE BESIDES KARATE, THEY ALSO TEACH KRAV MAGA. IT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 1960'S. BUT NOW IT IS GETTING A LITTLE MORE POPULARITY. TRACY: ALTHOUGH IT IS CONSIDERED COMBAT FIGHTING, PEOPLE HERE DO IT TO GET A GOOD WORKOUT. GOOD CARDIO, GOOD FLEXIBILITY TRAINING. YOU MOVE YOUR CORE MUSCLES. YOU ARE WORKING THE WHOLE CORE. WITH THE PUNCHING SKILLS, YOU'RE GETTING THE ARMS YOU NEED.

TRACY: TONY SAYS KRAV MAGA WILL HAVE YOU FEELING THE BURN. THE BEST PART? IT IS A GOOD WORKOUT FOR EVERYONE. THAT IS THE NICE THING ABOUT KRAV MAGA. THE KICKS DO NOT HAVE TO BE HIGH-LEVEL KICKS. THEY ALL STAY LOWER. THESE STRIKES ARE LOCATED. TRACY: SPEAKING OF KICKS, IT IS SAFE TO SAY KRAV MAGA IS A WORKOUT THAT WILL KICK ABOUT ANYONE'S BUTT. TONY SAYS IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT GETTING PHYSICALLY FIT. IF YOU HAVE THAT WHOLE MIND-BODY CONNECTION, YOU HAVE YOUR OWN SPIRITUAL, PHILOSOPHICAL ATTITUDE.

TRACY: I CAN CERTAINLY SAY KRAV MAGA HAD ME FEELING SWEATY, OUT OF BREATH, AND DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS AFTER LEARNING NEW SELF-DEFENSE MOVES. TONY SAYS THAT SELF OF CONFIDENCE IS A BIG PART OF IT. IT IS A GREAT WORKOUT. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY DOUBTS ABOUT THEMSELVES, THEY WILL BE A LOT MORE CONFIDENT. I THINK KRAV MAGA IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO GET THAT. TRACY: ONE THING I REALLY LIKED IS THAT YOU GET TO WORK WITH A PARTNER SO THERE IS REALLY A TEAM ATMOSPHERE. IT WAS KIND OF FUN TAKING OUT FRUSTRATION ON THOSE BAGS. TOMORROW, WE TRY SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR CENTURIES.
